Skin being our largest organ is the primal organ for touch... and touch is very healing indeed. Massage for me is an exchange of energies. It is a gift and learning and sharing is part and parcel of it.
Though not formally trained in giving massage, over many years I have received different kinds of massages. Swedish, ayurvedic, lomi lomi, deep tissue, shiatsu and chinese massage techniques have taught me loads and I have been informally giving my own 'hybrid' massage for well over five years now.
I have two herniated discs hence i appreciate the exchangee massuer not to be a total novice, but someone who has a good understanding of the physiology. I feel massaging is as much about knowing the anatomy and physiology as much it is about intuition and most of all a sensibility of hearing what the body says to the touch. Checking from the person if the pressure/strokes are firm or light and how it works for them is essential to the understanding of their needs, and leads to a healing and invigorating massage.
I have a shower that can be used before the massage to ensure the best benefits from the massage. I have a massage table with a headrest, and a room that overlooks my back garden with plenty natural light.
PLEASE bring your oils and towel.
