More About Me
I have loved massage my whole life. One day I was with my pastor and he suddenly felt bad and laid on the floor (unusual.) I had a feeling that I should try to massage him and help ease his pain. After 10 minutes he said he felt better and thought I should go to school for it. I laughed. One week later I got a call from a massage school that was calling me back for information I had requested over a year prior. I thought it was a joke, then I remembered I had helped a co-worker do some research for massage schools previously and had used my number since most places only contacted via e-mail. With the 2 coincidences I thought I may as well give it a try. So I enrolled and spent several months learning all about the human body, diseases, and of course, spa and massage.
Spending time as a student receiving massage twice weekly changed my life. I felt all the stress from years of playing football finally melting away. My mood also became more easy going and light. A friend started a yoga studio and I soon got a new outlook on life.
Flash forward to my actual massage. Since I am so tall, my big hands gave numerous people the massage they had wanted. I quickly learned to become attuned to people's bodies and use different pressures on the appropriate areas. Naturally, my back massage was amazing due to my large forearms and ability to leverage my height to get the perfect pressure.
I worked in a salon/spa as well as also working with a mobile massage company that did corporate, event, and in-calls.
I spent the last 5 years living in China and traveling. The massages in China were great, but I still prefer Swedish style. Thailand was also amazing, but the tourist-y areas made me feel that the therapists didn't have time to invest in me. Which felt like getting the equivalent of an Applebee's dinner (good, but nothing special.)
Now that I'm back in the states, I no longer still have a valid Texas Massage Therapist License. I still love the work, but am not ready to invest the money and hours into getting re-certified. That being said, I may be a little rusty compared to when I was licensed. However, I'm sure that after a few massages, it will all come back.
