I had my first experience with a certified massage therapist 25 years ago. A classmate of mine in a course (unrelated to massage) we were taking was horrified by the popping noises from my back/shoulders when I stretched. She practiced shiatsu - two pressure points and 5 minutes later, my shoulders were less tense than they'd ever been. Following that, I've tried to get massages regularly. For me, deep tissue massage from someone with strong hands who can apply serious pressure just work best. I have no formal massage training myself, but I have strong hands and am good at quickly finding the knots that need the most attention.
