As a chronic pain patient since teen years, I have paid critical attention to the care I've been provided, beginning with exchanging massage with a very professional massage therapist / chiropractor who had pity on me when I dated his son from ages 17 to 18. Since then I have been the guinea pig of amateurs, experienced like myself, students, and professionals. I am strong and talented, particularly at zoning in on trigger points, but not formally trained. I find being gentle a challenge, tho, so it helps if you prefer deep tissue, which I'll need myself. However, I can't express enough, communication over tensing up to bare it. If the pressure all over or just at some spots i.e. my upper arms, is too much and you aren't telling the person doing the body work, you are wasting both of our time. I can teach methods that save your body while giving a strong massage. I also use an approach when necessary that has been very helpful for the ticklish massage recipients of using larger surfaces like my palm or forearm. I've learned a lot about the mechanics of massage but could definitely improve where grounding is concerned. I HATE cliches, but the show fits that my empathic nature makes grounding and releasing tension a challenge.
