I have received massage on and off over 40 years. During the times I was receiving regularly, it was once a week; sometimes twice a month. As to giving, I'm what is called a talented amateur. I've given massage less regularly and less often (sometimes on an exchange basis with a neighbor), but the feedback has always been positive. I enjoy the process; gradually getting a person to relax, finding the hot spots, kinks and other needful places. It's a little like detective work.
Communication is key, I like to check in regularly as to pressure, locations that have been missed, etc. "You missed a spot" is NOT what I want to hear when I finish your massage, but I rather hear it than leave anything missed.
